W\e are hiring a Tax Director who  is responsible for the overall supervision of all indirect tax compliance functions, ensuring the timely and accurate filing of all indirect tax returns and lead the indirect tax audit defense. This position will also work with the Director of Excise, Sales, Use in developing corporate-wide processes and internal controls for both the business units and corporate support functions.  This position also provides indirect tax advice and guidance to all operating units of the company (research, educating personnel, planning, compliance system management and audit defense).  This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Tax.

Principal Responsibilities

The Director will be responsible for and assume overall control of all indirect tax compliance function, including sales/use, property, gross receipts, special franchise fees.

Main point person for all indirect tax audits.

Responsible for negotiating the parameters and scope of the audits and negotiating settlements with Government auditors

Responsible for directing a tax compliance staff who will prepare excise, gross receipts, and sales and use tax, property tax and other tax returns, and defend the filings and positions taken should any of the returns be audited.

Interact with outside vendors supporting sales, gross receipts, and excise tax related matters throughout the organization.

The role is currently based Bethpage, NY with a future location change to Long Island City, NY in 2018.   

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
Master’s Degree in Tax or equivalent preferred (substituted for government experience in these areas).
CPA and/or prior government experience preferred.
10+ years professional experience.
Experience in telephony/cable/entertainment/media industries a plus.
Audit experience required.
Experience with various invoice sampling techniques.
Experience negotiating credits, grants, and amnesty periods with state/local taxing authorities.
Private industry plus some accounting experience preferred.
Articulate, highly organized, detail-oriented
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Strong management skills & team player.
Microsoft Office applications: MS Excel, MS Access proficiency (or other database)
Familiarity with Vertex, Oracle and other non-income tax compliance software.
Ability to manage 5+ people.
