Job Summary
The Circuit Designer is responsible for creating, managing and maintaining engineering circuit designs of the Lightpath network and carrier facilities using the OSSs. In addition, this position will act as a resource for installation and service technicians and circuit designers in the design and processing of customer and internal orders. The Circuit Designer position is to track and maintain all pertinent inventory databases in regard to Lightpath products and services in order to deliver an accurate and timely design to the downstream departments. This ensures a quality product and a timely delivery of these designs to meet customer expectations of service delivery from Lightpath.
Responsibilities
- Provide reliable engineering system design (DLR) for Construction, Installation, and Network Engineering technicians to use to activate new facilities for:
- New customer locations
- Augmentations at existing locations
- Provide Design Layout Record (DLR’s) for carriers ordering facilities from Lightpath
- Manage and maintain accurate databases related to customer and carrier facilities, network inventory, etc. as possible within OSS
- Responsible for providing budget codes required to justify cost for equipment deployment and service implementation.
- Generate Equipment Infrastructure Orders for customer, internal and service-related orders to verify proper equipment deployment for service delivery
- Work with Engineering and Type 2 Operations departments to order and establish required cross connects and fiber tie pairs to complete customers end-to-end network connectivity
- Work with Critical Systems to request and procure the required space and power in head-end locations to support customer service deliveries via the ERF process
- Evaluate and determine the power requirements for equipment utilization for new and existing customers
- May be responsible for creating building CLLI codes to be utilized by all telecom companies via proprietary iConectiv web-based systems.
- Coordinate all equipment augmentations/capacity expansions with Installation, Network Engineering and Capacity Management
- Participate in special projects and associated duties as assigned
- Provide support to all Field operations personnel to ensure accurate designs for service installations
- Determine and initiate scope of work and methods of procedure for required maintenance window due to service affecting issues
- Required to troubleshoot and resolve moderate to complex circuit and/or database problems to ensure minimal delay in service delivery.
- Participate in the development of standards for designs operations
- Communicate with other departments in reporting and resolving operational software and hardware issues pertaining to OSS.
- Work in partnership with Network Planning & Engineering, to clarify and analyze Network Design Projects/Plans for implementation into the OSS and Lightpath network
- Maintain/support standard ethernet, data, dark fiber, optical transport, video, internet circuits, cellular backhaul, etc. and traditional voice and data circuits
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent engineering experience
- Min 2 years in telecommunications environment with relevant circuit design experience
- Minimum of “Meets Expectations” Performance review for the past 2 years.
- Must be able to serve as SME for all services in the Lightpath portfolio
- Knowledge and familiarity with various vendor hardware including, but not limited to Ciena, Cisco, Adva/MRV, Infinera, etc.
- Knowledge and familiarity with fiber optic topologies, various Network Infrastructures and MEN Standards
- Good interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- PC skills, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Visio
- Experience with or ability to quickly learn OSS systems such as NetCracker, Granite, etc.
- Participate in UAT’s for OSS when necessary.
- Demonstrate ability to interrogate OSS systems to investigate availability of facilities and resolve assignment discrepancies
- Full working knowledge of all technologies being deployed in the Lightpath Network
