Job Summary

The Senior Active Directory Engineer provides support, implementation, and design services for Microsoft Active Directory and Windows-based systems across the enterprise, including directory and identity management solutions. Resolves and appropriately completes assigned cases and change requests and acts as an escalation for support issues. Applies new solutions through research and collaboration with team and determines course of action for new application initiatives. Implements new software solutions as required by the business. The core infrastructure technology duties include enterprise Microsoft Active Directory and Windows file services architecture creation and management, global system security and policy configuration, and top-level support for enterprise-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure ensuring it is secure,  scalable, and reliable  
  • Develop and maintain the overall architecture of the Active Directory environment, including domain controllers, Group Policies, DNS, and replication. 
  • Implement and manage identity and access management solutions, including Azure. 
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Active Directory issues, ensuring high availability and performance of directory services. 
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to integrate Active Directory with other systems and applications.  
  • Develop automation routines to replace manual processes and increase efficiency.   
  • Interact with end users to troubleshoot reported problems or to perform required system maintenance activities.   
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery experience. 
  • Escalate problems to management and/or vendors in a timely fashion.   
  • Develop techniques and implement resolution of problems based on root cause analysis.   
  • Follow established Change Control procedures to document all production changes, and to limit unexpected interruptions to the production environment.   
  • Mentor other active directory engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.   
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of technical experience with Microsoft Active Directory
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, and PKI architecture
  • Understanding of Entra ID, Entra Managed Applications, and Conditional Access Policies (CAPs)
  • Attribute and object level knowledge of Active Directory
  • Extensive experience in design and troubleshooting of enterprise domains, including authentication, site layout, PKI and certificates, migration, consolidation, automation of access and access removal to various applications and/or authorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of authentication, security, privacy, and compliance and how they factor into cloud and hybrid solutions
  • Strong working knowledge of network architecture and standards for large enterprise deployments and understanding of security frameworks specific to IT Standards (PCI/SOX/etc.)
  • Experience in architecture and design of enterprise IT infrastructure
  • Knowledge and understanding of common project management concepts
  • Understanding of traditional SDLC, Waterfall and Agile project delivery concepts  
  • Knowledge and understanding of general ITIL concepts
  • Agile project team experience is required
