Job Summary
As a Level 2 SRE IP Engineer, you will support the design, maintenance, and optimization of IP-based infrastructure systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and automation. This role sits at the intersection of traditional IP network engineering and modern SRE practices, where you will contribute to enhancing network performance while implementing software-driven operational efficiencies.
You’ll work closely with senior SREs and network engineers to monitor system health, identify service degradations, and implement incident response procedures. Through hands-on exposure to routing protocols, automation tools, observability platforms, and network infrastructure, you will help build a resilient environment that supports large-scale services with minimal downtime.
This is an opportunity to grow your expertise in both IP transport and site reliability practices, laying the foundation for more advanced roles in network automation, infrastructure architecture, or technical leadership.
Responsibilities
- Support incident response and contribute to postmortem analysis and documentation.
- Monitor key network and infrastructure metrics and assist in creating automated alerts.
- Execute and improve runbooks and standard operating procedures for routine maintenance and incident handling.
- Assist in configuration, deployment, and validation of IP network elements (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Contribute to the development of internal tools and automation scripts (Python, Bash, or Ansible) for service reliability tasks.
- Collaborate with NOC and Operations teams to ensure uptime targets are met.
- Participate in software patching, upgrades, and system audits under supervision.
- Help validate changes through peer reviews and change management processes.
- Support the documentation of SRE processes, tools, and infrastructure topologies.
- Track availability SLAs and assist in improving system observability.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–4 years of experience working in IP networks or infrastructure engineering environments.
Technical Expertise
- Familiarity with IP routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS) and basic MPLS concepts.
- Exposure to Linux/Unix systems and understanding of system-level networking.
- Experience using monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Ability to write or understand basic automation scripts in Python, Shell, or similar.
- Understanding of core networking principles: subnetting, VLANs, NAT, QoS.
- Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and basic authentication protocols (RADIUS, TACACS+).
- Strong communication skills and willingness to document and share knowledge.
- Interest in infrastructure as code, continuous integration, and DevOps practices is a plus.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are a plus.
