Job Summary

The Supervisor of Production Operations plays a critical role in leading the day-to-day editing and master control workflows for live and recorded news and content programming across multiple platforms. This role bridges technical execution and editorial excellence, ensuring high production quality, operational efficiency, and timely delivery of compelling content.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and supervise daily video editing assignments and master control playout requirements. Partner with editorial, studio directors, digital, engineering, and graphics teams to align production resources with content needs.
  • Train and mentor staff on editing systems, master control, newsroom systems, workflow best practices, and other related equipment usage.
  • Oversee daily video editing operations from start to finish.
  • Ensure adherence to FCC regulations, internal quality standards, and technical requirements.
  • Maintain readiness of master control & editing systems and other related equipment through collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure a smooth video editing and master control process.
  • Ensure editing deadlines are met and that content is visually and editorially polished, on-brand, and platform-appropriate.
  • Partner with editorial, digital, engineering, and graphics teams to align production resources with content needs.
  • Lead master control planning and video editing execution of major initiatives such as elections, town halls, and special coverage.
  • Evaluate workflows and identify improvements in editing pipelines, file management, and project delivery.
  • Help implement newsroom systems (e.g., MAM, NRCS, Adobe, BitCentral or other editing environments) to increase speed and efficiency.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry tools and trends in editing, broadcast, and digital video.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in television news production with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Strong background in master control systems and editing content for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Expertise with non-linear editing systems (Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, etc.)
  • Familiarity with newsroom systems such as iNEWS, ENPS, Bitcentral, Dalet, or similar
  • Working knowledge of studio, ENG, and control room operations
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills
  • Deadline-driven, with acute attention to editorial and visual detail
  • Collaborative, solution-focused mindset with the ability to troubleshoot quickly
  • Flexible schedule with availability for nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment when necessary
  • Occasional travel for remote broadcasts or special coverage

Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $77,112.00 - $126,684.00  / year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
