Job Summary/Responsibilties

Under the direction of the business unit manager the candidate will be responsible for service activation and support of provisioning new services within the Lightpath Network. The Service Activation Technician will assist in providing support to the Field Operations team in such matters as node insertions, equipment configurations, circuit builds, troubleshooting, etc. The Service Activation team directs and actively coordinates all testing, provisioning of new Lightpath Services.

 

  • Detailed understanding of reading and interpreting NetCracker orders, engineering designs, technical schematics and the provisioning test turn-up procedures, building circuits via Lightpath Provisioning Systems
  • Responsible for interfacing with ILEC & CLEC to coordinate testing on type II’s.
  • Assign and change physical ports and port speeds between Lightpath and end users.
  • Test with installation field technicians to verify continuity of new orders prior to completion.
  • Strong understanding of OSI model (specifically layers 1, 2 & 3) to help configure routers, IAD devices, IP Muxes, NID’s, SIP services
  • Maintain IP records and correspondence with IP planner/ARIN to track and support IP address usage.
  • Responsible for provisioning, formatting and coding functionality of Lucent DACS IV & DACS II, Tellabs/Coriant, Cisco Core Devices, Atrica 2140, Ciena.
  • Responsible for working all tasks that are ready or past due in the service activation queue
  • Strong understanding of test equipment to test DS0, T-1, T-3’s, Sonet , MPLS, Ethernet .
  • Responsible for answering incoming calls from field technicians as well as internal/external customers such as engineering and circuit design.
  • General understanding of Remedy Ticketing Systems as well as being responsible for answering tickets assigned to the queue.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable field experience.
  • Minimum 5 years voice and or data networking experience.
  • CCIP, CCNP, certifications preferred.
  • Experience with DWDM, Sonet, Ethernet, Cisco routing, and switching including platform support for GSR, and ESR components.
  • Core Layer I through seven network competencies in IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Uni, and Multicast.
  • Strong knowledge to support intelligent transport and managed service solutions for E-line V-Line, E-Lan, VOIP, VPN, internet access, bundled services, and managed routers.
  • Thorough understanding and experience in using varied Graphical and Command line Interface Systems, technical schematics, equipment configurations, trouble isolation, etc.
  • Proven ability to multitask, strong verbal, and written skills required.
  • Ability to persuade and use problem solving conflict resolution skills.
