Job Summary

 

The Sr. Sales Engineer routinely engages both internally and externally with Director, VP and C-level staff providing critical perspective and guidance on strategy, investments and innovation drawing upon their depth and breadth of technical and business impact knowledge. This position works closely with the Account teams to provide outstanding technical solutions and designs to our current and potential customers. The Sales Engineer will work with the customer teams based on a strategic account plan. The goal will be to facilitate on-going projects, help to start new initiatives and sell Lightpath solutions. Since the Sales Engineer augments and assists both a strategic account and sales team, experience as a technical leader is a requirement. Sales acumen, IT industry experience, and previous technical account management roles are all critical requirements for the Sales Engineer. Has already established high level customer relationships and is comfortable working at the CTO level.

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop strong relationships with Customer Engineering, Product Management & Product Architect Teams.
  • Represent Customer and Lightpath viewpoints in product scoping, development and design process.
  • Think outside of the box to create a strategic vision for serviceable and supportable products.
  • Share this vision with others.
  • Define detailed technical requirements for product supportability and assess the products against those requirements.
  • Operate as a subject matter expert core teams focused on specific product sets
  • Coordinate and Project Manage Launch readiness activities, such as training,
  • Ability to see and present "the big picture" and offer solutions for improvement
  • An understanding of the financial and technical challenges faced with running a modern data center
  • The ability to articulate and understand Lightpath’s technology and the benefits that can be achieved in customer environments
  • Strong understanding of competitive technologies, competitor positioning, counter-arguments and emerging technologies that could be both cooperative and competitive
  • Skills and knowledge in the areas of project & risk management, business finance and strategic account planning
  • Perform Beta product implementations,
  • Ensure Lightpath is ready to deliver the products as they are released.
  • Be the owner for Lightpath documentation, training, process and policy for specific products.
  • Build supportability metrics and product scorecards to drive strategic product discussion with Product Management and Engineering.
  • Research, define, implement and roll-out product supportability best practices.
  • Responsible for participating and successfully completing all companywide mandates/training in a timely manner.

Education and Experience

 

Preferred level of education and experience necessary to successfully perform the principle responsibilities of this position:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or experience in relevant field preferred.
  • Overall Experience: 5+ years.
  • Balance of both strong technical and strong strategic skills. Willing to get into deep, techie details, but also able to see the big picture and make educated trade-off decisions without getting bogged down by the details.
  • Able to develop trusted relationships, a strong internal network and use influence to drive change.
  • Displays situational fluency and perseverance to handle challenging business situations.
  • Able to negotiate and compromise to drive consensus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to a broad range of technical and business audiences, including technical and business executives.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with project management experience.
  • Understanding of Cloud Services including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS with knowledge of virtualization techniques such as VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft.
  • Understanding of AC and DC power systems as they relate to Telecom and Enterprise network and server infrastructure components.
  • Network/routing protocols including MPLS, BGP, SIP, DWDM, SONet/SDH, Long-haul & Metro Transport, Ethernet, IP Peering Fiber Optic Outside Plant as well as VoIP technologies.
  • Design principals of Data Center Environments and systems including HVAC, Power Density Calculations, UPS Power systems, Fire Suppression, and Construction with relationship to Uptime Institute’s / BICSI Tier ratings and standards.
  • Experience with IP Address management and subnets.
  • Specific knowledge of Server, Network and Storage hardware and software including Cisco, EMC, NetApp, IBM, HP, Linux, and Microsoft technologies.
