Job Summary

Performs and assists in the installation, splicing, testing, documentation and service of fiber optic equipment in a manner that ensures company technical requirements are adhered to, thereby ensuring customer satisfaction through high level operational efficiency. Assists the Fiber Technician BBT-IV, and fiber supervisor in daily work procedures. Position serves as a conduit for the delivery of all products such as Video, HSD, iO, VoIP, Lightpath to the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the interpretations and utilization of fiber POC design principals in a manner that ensures a high level of operational efficiency.
  • Possess working knowledge of headend operations in a manner that ensures fiber related tasks are performed in an efficient manner.
  • Performs engineering of fiber optic cable from new node locations, Lighpath subscriber locations, and municipalities via fiber network to Altice / Lightpath facilities utilizing existing system maps and field research.
  • Assists with public relations with Altice / Lightpath customers, city, county, state officials and utility company personnel
  • Meets department standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis. Responsible for performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Altice policies and procedures.
  • Complies with safety guidelines as laid out in Altice’s safety manual, in relationship with OSHA, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), Blue Book, SCTE construction and fiber manual and Building Officials Code Administration (BOCA).
  • Maintain all stock and work-related supplies in the vehicle in an organized, professional and safe manner as necessary to perform all job-related duties. This includes removal of personal items and effects prior to the end of each shift.
  • Complies with Altice dress code in order to present a neat and professional image to our customers and the public in general.
  • Performs troubleshooting of fiber optic links utilizing Altice approved test equipment including but not limited to traffic identifier, visual fault locator (red light), optical power meter, OTDR, bi directional testers and volt/ohm multimeter.
  • Frequent interaction with multiple departments inclusive in Altice & Lightpath.
  • Responsible to prepare PAR’s for new projects.
  • Completes all paperwork tasks using appropriate company documentation and ensuring said documentation is completed in a full and accurate manner.
  • Ensures fellow workers and outside contractor’s compliance with vehicle and work-related equipment as well as on site safety measures in relationship to the Altice safety manual, OSHA and NESC guidelines.
  • Works a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, overtime, emergency storm duty and standby as needed
  • Capable of optimizing a fiber optic link for new fiber nodes.
  • Performs emergency restoration of fiber damage or cuts. Including prepping, splice enclosure entry, building of splice enclosure, traying, splicing, splice matrix identification, locating of slack spans, and installation of restoration kits.
  • Performs revisions of existing and drafting of new Altice / Lightpath fiber optic system prints or diagrams utilizing mapping software.
  • Building of fiber optic splice enclosure including preparation, traying of fibers, ribbonize / deribbonize fiber, and splicing of fiber.
  • Performs required testing to be provided for project requestor, including but not limited to OTDR traces, bi directional test documentation and as build information.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous Fiber/Splicing experience required.
  • Previous Outside Plan technical experience strongly preferred.
  • Must have all working knowledge of duties/responsibilities in the BBT IV Fiber description.
  • Ability to learn how to use a 28-foot ladder and lift 75 pounds.
  • Valid state driver's license applicable to state law.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights.
  • Ability to operate all tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Ability to climb utility poles.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, overtime, emergency storm duty and standby as needed.
  • Knowledge of all mdu, aerial, and underground construction procedures, specifications, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of grounding and bonding specifications as necessary.
  • Knowledge of basic design calculations including fiber.
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills. (MS office, GroupWise, Visio, Streets & Trips, Mapping/Drafting software)
  • Ability to read maps. (Road and Systems)
  • Knowledge of the following POC products but not limited to: Fiber cables - (Single Mode, Dispersion Shifted, Multimode, Hybrid Fiber) HFC Power Supplies - (3, 6 and 8 battery units) HFC Coax Actives / Passives - Antronix, SA, Motorola/GI, etc Coax Cable - Trilogy MC2, CommScope P1, 2 & 3 and other cables Coax Connectors - all sizes from RG59 to 1125 inch QR
  • Basic knowledge of but not limited to the following fiber test equipment - Basic knowledge of but not limited to outside plant test equipment
  • Internal Field Service Technician applicants must fully complete their field service career progression program and spend a minimum of twelve months as an Outside Plant Tech III to be deemed eligible.

Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $74,018.00 - $121,601.00 / year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
