Job Summary

Access Technician II is responsible for providing first level technical support across Video, DOCSIS and Critical Infrastructure systems including, set-up and operation of cable modem termination systems, cable modems, and basic networking equipment, maintenance and adjustments of document video carrier levels, audio video ratio, depth of modulation, and audio deviation as well as management of optical splice patch panels, optical couplers, and appropriate optical connector handling and cleaning procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Act as first point of contact to determine source of signal impairments in partnership with field and Network Operations Center (NOC) employees to facilitate quick resolution of issues identified.
  • Perform proactive and reactive monitoring of all the fundamental tasks required in the testing and analysis of all elements of the network equipment and facilities.
  • Partner with Internet Protocol (IP) network engineers to facilitate proper operation, maintenance, and restoration of high speed data network.
  • Support, operate and maintain all Headend equipment including but not limited to: signal processors, modulators, demodulators, satellite receivers, integrated receiver descramblers, digital receivers, transcoders, combining and splitting networks, laser transmitters, Fiber optic receivers.
  • Monitor Headend cooling and coordinate with air-conditioning specialists to ensure proper system operation.
  • Generate universal change request (UCR) tickets for the notification and updating of scheduled or emergency repairs with the Network Operations Center and other departments.
  • Install, test and maintain emergency alert systems and backup powering systems- including Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, and temporary feeds and support after-hours emergency response stand-by.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper Optical Transport Network (OTN) operation and that the maintenance schedule is followed.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science/Network Engineering, or equivalent work experience, such 2+ years of Tech Adv required.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge in the majority of the following areas:
    • Network from cable modem termination system (CMTS) to Peering/Transit platforms.
    • All Routing protocols and configurations (to support BGP, OSPF & EIGRP)
    • High level of knowledge on Cisco core router devices and configurations
    • All Networking topologies (Ethernet, SONET, Spatial Reuse Protocol (SRP), Packet over SONET (POS), etc.)
    • Switching and configuration options (Virtual LAN (VLANS), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Not so stubby area (NSSA), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Policy Based Routing (PBR), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Network Address Translation (NAT), etc.)
    • Internet applications and their protocols Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP), Peer to peer type apps, mail, news, web surfing, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), etc.)
    • Multicast (Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM), Internet Group Management Protocol v2 and v3 (IGMPv2 and v3), Auto-Rendezvous Point Auto-RP)
    • Highest level of DOCSIS knowledge and applications
    • Working knowledge of the proprietary networks as they relate to Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), Optimum Video (I/O), Optimum Online (OOL), Lightpath and Network Transport.
  • Advanced experience with Internet applications and their effect on Network Infrastructure.
  • Must be able to participate in after-hours emergency response stand-by. Including response to Fire Alarms, Equipment Alarms, Power Outages, Natural events (floods, wind, hurricanes ….) and other events.
  • Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required as well as 24 hours standby when needed.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.
