Senior Network Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Network R&S Engineer position represents a position with technical knowledge that spans all other disciplines within the group. This individual must have high technical abilities in all fields. Oversee the complex combined networks and systems of the other disciplines and reviews, recommends and engineers the systems to work together into one highly meshed reliable offering. Responsibilities also include investigating additional ways to enhance the networks and its systems to provide the highest quality and most reliable network and systems possible. Designs, documents, and maintains network configurations. Formulates and propagates best practices measures to both internal and external Eng/Ops departments based on existing, proposed, and new engineering/technology deployments. Develops and improves methods and tools for the troubleshooting and researching of issues and develops new technology (to industry level) to apply to outstanding shortfalls in deployed technologies. Creates and maintains logs, records, diagrams, and reports of any and all network systems. Manages various projects as assigned and provide reports and updates as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. This Senior Network R&S Engineer provides a high level of technical experience that allows timely resolutions to problems, issues, and outages. They are responsible for working directly with the hardware/software vendors when issues and or new necessary features are identified. They are the technical project owners from duties spanning the entire network tier to the documentation and administrative handoff of new business opportunities to the respective operational entities. They act as high-end support for complex network issues, are responsible for assigned projects. This position also works on formulating, developing, designing, and implementing system and network changes.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to deploy, monitor, test and tune network devices and systems to provide optimal network security and performance.
• Provide leadership in the creation of automated network systems management through the use of scripting and other automation techniques.
• Subject matter expert and technology leader for one or many of the network protocols, including OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, and MPLS.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation including design requirements, network diagrams, workflow diagrams, application communication diagrams, support diagrams and project documentation.
• Plan, coordinate, design, and architect the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of network devices, including access policies, and third-party vendor/partner connectivity.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience on Routing and Switching, IP Networks and their associated systems with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
• Cisco Certifications (one required): CCNP / CCIP / CCIE or a written CCIE R&S
• All Routing protocols and configurations (to support BGP, OSPF & MPLS)
• Demonstration of strong decision-making skills
• Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities based on workload
• Excellent Coordination and time management skills
• Strong inter-personal and communication skills with co-workers, vendors and customers required.
• Ability to solve and document problems quickly and completely
• Candidate must show ability to logically work through issues, communicate to management as well as have experience in troubleshooting Network outages while being under pressure
• Scripting languages a plus. (Python, CGI, Java and PHP)
• Advanced Experience with NMS solutions to support the Network and its devices
• Flexible working hours, 24 hour on call systems support. Ability to work during maintenance windows
